Psalm 16:11

(Today’s post is the last post in a series on Psalm 16. You can find all the posts on my Psalm 16 page.)

You have made known to me the path of life;

You will fill me with joy in Your presence,

With eternal pleasures at Your right hand.  Psalm 16:11 (NIV)

Path – manner; way; well-traveled path; way of living

Life – age; living

Joy – glee; pleasure; mirth

Presence – face; in the face of; in front of

Eternal – continual; never ending; everlasting

Pleasures – pleasant; sweet; lovely; agreeable things

Right hand – literal right hand. Often used in the Old Testament as a symbol of God’s divine blessing, favor, protection

In his final verse, David wraps up Psalm 16 with a declaration of God’s goodness and praise for what He has done for him.

He acknowledges God has shown him which path he wants David’s life to take.

David says he knows God will fill him with joy when he comes into God’s presence, and that God will fill him with never-ending goodness because he trusts in Him.

David knows he has good things ahead for him, both in this life and in the life to come, simply because he trusts and walks with God.

God will do the same for us.

Because He loves us and wants good for us, God will show us the path of life He wants us to take.

When we take that path, He will fill us with joy.

He will provide us with eternal pleasures, just like He did for David.

All we have to do is look to God and trust Jesus for salvation.

Then, like David we can celebrate that we are walking with God and receiving eternal goodness from His right hand.

What a precious gift that is!

Let us praise God for His guidance, goodness, and love.

Prayer – Father, thank You for showing us the best path to take in life. I’m grateful for the joy Your presence gives me. Will You please show me how to better walk Your path so I can honor You? Thank You for the eternal pleasures You share with me now and will share with me in the life to come. Thank You for David’s writings and the way they help us to better understand You. Thank You for loving us and rescuing us through Your Son, Jesus. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Thank you for following along with me in my journey through Psalm 16.

If you have something to share about any part of it I hope you will contact me. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Surely you have granted him unending blessings and made him glad with the joy of Your presence.  Psalm 21:6 – (NIV)

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.  Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)

When my heart was grieved and my spirit embittered, 22 I was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before You. 23 Yet I am always with You; You hold me by my right hand. 24 You guide me with Your counsel, and afterward You will take me into glory. 25 Whom have I in heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides You. Psalm 73:21-25 (NIV)

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Psalm 119:105 (NIV)
